The origin of ARY group of companies stems from the pre-partition times of the subcontinent where ARY family was in the business of refinery based in Surat (in the state of Gujarat, now in India). After the partition, their family moved to Pakistan. ARY Refinery was the only registered refinery in Pakistan that minted hallmarked gold bars with a brand of two horses. These gold bars were renowned for their purity in the subcontinent and were exported to the province of Punjab (in Pakistan) and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).
ARY family diversified into various other businesses which included trading in cotton yarn, textiles, and the wire drawing industry.
In 1969 Mr. Haji Abdul Razzak Yaqood moved to Dubai and ARY started its operations in 1970. In 1985 ARY began trading in gold bullion and in the 1990s launched the first UAE-branded gold bar. In the early ‘90s, it diversified into jewelry. They expanded their jewelry operation into retail stores throughout the city and wholesaling to other jewelers in the country and across the region.
ARY through its Cleargem concept, introduced awareness for certified diamonds way back in 1999 when consumers were not confident to buy diamonds from Dubai. Since then the need for certified diamonds initiated. As diamond is a high-margin product, businesses diversified into certified diamonds that gave consumers confidence and thus stimulated demand for diamonds in this very city of gold, which has now become the hub for diamonds too.
